Supporting a large government program with vital expertise
Engaged by: Federal government department.
To deliver: Critical contract management, governance expertise, and human resources (HR) support for a complex program of work delivering essential capabilities.
Our approach: This engagement required careful planning and strategic oversight, including:
- addressing challenges across procurement processes
- identifying and managing risk
- ensuring sustainability of contractual arrangements.
We developed and managed critical contract artefacts – from procurement strategies to contractual documentation and compliance reports. Structured plans and frameworks ensured contracting approaches supported immediate milestones and future goals.
Acting as a primary interface between our client and contractors, our ability to anticipate challenges and provide pragmatic solutions helped to maintain progress in an ever-evolving environment.
Geodetica’s governance expertise was essential for strengthening oversight and monitoring performance. We led the development of critical documents (complete with embedded governance structures), including:
- business cases for funding and approvals
- integrated project management plans
- project execution strategies
- compliance frameworks
- risk registers and schedules.
We supported strategic engagement activities, prepared governance briefings, and embedded compliance protocols into everyday operations – strengthening our client’s ability to stay aligned with strategic objectives while managing risk and meeting internal standards.
In the human resources space, we developed and implemented transformative solutions to embed accountability, compliance, and efficiency into the program’s HR operations. This approach established a strong HR framework from the outset, and positioned the program for sustained workforce readiness and operational success across its lifecycle.
Our team worked to strengthen our client’s internal team by equipping them with the tools and insights needed to effectively manage contracts and governance. This commitment to knowledge transfer left a legacy of expertise within their team and has enabled the program’s continued success.
Steer a critical maritime project towards success
Engaged by: Federal government department
To deliver: Expertise in project management, program management, risk management, and business management during a critical naval fleet upgrade.
Our approach: We held senior roles for the duration of this project, including Deputy Program Director and Risk Controller.
Through these roles we:
- delivered strategic oversight
- enhanced project outcomes
- ensured alignment with broader objectives.
Our team developed and maintained key project plans, and worked closely with stakeholders to coordinate project deliverables in strict timeframes. We led independent audits and reviews, making sure the project had the objective quality evidence needed to meet standards.
In risk and financial management, we oversaw the entire risk management function across all project phases. Structured forums allowed for the early identification and mitigation of potential risks, and we introduced risk training to equip our client’s staff with the skills to manage emerging challenges.
This training extended to mentoring and capacity building for certain staff – ensuring they’re well-prepared to navigate complex project landscapes in the future.
Leading a complex program of work
To deliver: Integrated program management, communications, contract, HR, and governance services to support the delivery of four complex projects within a broader program of work.
Our approach: Geodetica acted in key leadership roles – including Program Manager, Project Manager, Governance Manager, and Engineering Manager – to support the delivery of this important program of work.
Our team led organisational planning and governance activities, producing key artefacts such as the:
- integrated project management plan
- project execution strategy
- integrated master schedule
- individual project schedules.
We overhauled the risk management framework, instigated regular risk workshops, and embedded risk reviews into program operations. Process mapping enabled greater efficiencies, while critical reports such as those reviewing compliance, fraud and integrity ensured program standards were always upheld.
In procurement and contract management, we:
- provided expert advice on complex issues
- led the approach-to-market strategy
- guided development of the statement of work
- drafted and managed contracts
- supported development of the remaining request for tender document suite.
From early negotiations to finalising deliverables, we were closely involved in every step of the contract lifecycle. We worked with probity experts, evaluated suppliers, oversaw negotiations, and set clear expectations around schedules and milestones.
Our team drove contract performance through major milestone reviews and documentation checks, and when a shift in program scope required urgent HR realignment, we developed a workforce strategy that met capability needs across the program lifecycle. This included future-proofing for emerging roles and embedding accountability and governance measures within the workforce model to support long-term planning and delivery.
In addition, we provided strategic media management – developing effective communication strategies to manage media inquiries and overseeing public-facing content such as media releases. This was essential to ensure everything released aligned with strategic communication goals and approved messaging.
