Geodetica welcomes engineer Lily Webster to the team

We’re thrilled to announce the appointment of Lily Webster as our newest engineer – bringing her years of experience in naval architecture and Defence to our growing team.

Born and bred in Newcastle, Lily was drawn to naval architecture as a niche field of engineering with great opportunities, and moved to Tasmania where she completed her degree. She then joined the Defence graduate program which she felt best aligned with her vision to become a deep specialist in her field.

“I was one of only two graduates in my cohort to join Defence initially,” remembers Lily. “I really liked the structure it provided, as well as the opportunity to work in several areas of Defence and meet so many different people.

“When the graduate program ended, I continued to work in the Directorate of Navy Engineering within niche naval architecture roles. My first job involved ensuring the stability of boats which I found personally rewarding as I have friends in the Navy, and had met so many navy personnel through the graduate program, so it was great to be part of the team that focuses on their safety at sea.”

Lily stayed with Defence for several years before choosing to move into a contract role where she worked on the SEA 1180 Offshore Patrol Vessels project. It was here that Lily worked with several of Geodetica’s senior engineers.

Now returning to the workforce after taking time off to have her first baby, Lily decided that Geodetica is the best place to take the next step in her career.

“I used to work for a large consulting firm and people would always reminisce about the good old days when the company was smaller. Geodetica is growing fast, but coming in at this point means I can be part of their growth journey while working alongside people I really respect. They also have a very family oriented culture which is important to me.

“I’ve always enjoyed learning, and the role I’m stepping into within the Defence Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group will allow me to draw on my skills and experience as well as broaden my outlook which is exciting.”

When she’s not working, Lily loves spending time with her young family and travelling up to Newcastle any chance she gets. She is also a keen veggie gardener and enjoys playing soccer and sewing.
