As we step into a new year, Geodetica is excited to announce that we are establishing a presence in Sydney, headed up by Luke Humphries as our new Operations Manager for NSW.

Luke joins us after forging an impressive career in the Defence and National Security sector spanning more than 20 years. With a Masters in Engineering Management and extensive experience in engineering and capability acquisition for the Royal Australian Navy, he will support Geodetica’s local engagements while growing our NSW-based team.

Originally from Canberra, Luke joined the Navy when he was just 18 years old in the hope that he would travel the world. Much to his disappointment, however, his first posting was back in Canberra!

After several months he posted to Sydney, where he spent 10 years working predominantly on ANZAC class frigates and in Defence Communication Stations – specialising in the maintenance and management of communications systems. He had several operational deployments in that time, including to the Middle East and East Timor.

“I developed a real passion for the Defence environment and supporting our servicemen and women,” says Luke. “After a decade, I had achieved the goals I set out for so I moved into consulting, which began with a great role supporting seaworthiness assurance at the Navy’s Fleet Headquarters. For 6 years I supported Major and Minor Surface Ships to get to sea, regularly flying around Australia to educate crews on positive engineering culture.

“In 2019 I transitioned into Defence acquisitions on the Navy Minor Capital Program, working alongside Dan Gould and Aaron De Sa. Then for the last few years I’ve led a large Defence and National Security team, supporting Defence clients around Australia within the engineering sustainment and capability acquisition domains.”

It was through his work in the consulting space that Luke met Jason and Suraj. While he never worked with them directly, related projects and shared values saw them develop lasting relationships.

“We stayed in touch over the years and when I knew I wanted to take the next step in my career, Jason was the first person I called. I wanted to work with an agile, highly driven team that is passionate about and committed to supporting Defence and industry, and I have found that in Geodetica.

“My role will involve bringing Geodetica’s inspiring culture and ethos into the NSW market, and onboarding more talent so we can best serve Geodetica’s clients in this region.

“I’m in complete alignment with the vision that Jason, Oliver and Suraj have for Geodetica, and I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping them grow.”

Living near the beach, Luke spends as much time as he can on the sand with his young family when he’s not working. If he gets a moment alone, you might also catch him playing a round of golf.
